Plants!

Chris and I woke up this morning to 60 degree weather and sunshine. We decided it would be the perfect day to go get some plants for the house and maybe do a little work on the backyard/jungle. We got in the car, rolled down the windows and headed of to the Home Depot.

When we got there we found a bunch of plants that I liked right away. Within minutes the cart was full and Chris and I had 5 plants, 3 planters and some dirt.

Full Cart!

We loaded everything into the car and headed home.

When we got back to the house we decided that (knowing me) our best bet would be to bring everything into the backyard for me to re-pot the plants.

Everything I need

We ended up picking up 2 larger plants for the livingroom:

Big plant #1

Big Plant #2

I also picked 3 smaller plants for the kitchen. I went with another small aloe plant, and two other little ones that I don’t know the names of, but look really cute.

Little Plants!

Then I got artsy (per usual) with the camera:

Have I mentioned I love my camera??

Anyway, back to the planting. In typical Kate-Style, I managed to get more of the dirt on me than in the planters. Eventually there was enough dirt and the plants were planted.

Planted Plants

Chris and I brought them inside and put them in the kitchen and livingroom.

Apparently the plants got kind of heavy when Chris was carrying the big planters up the stairs. As I was coming up the stairs I ran into this:

That's not right...

Whatever works, right? 🙂 Which reminds me, we do need something to decorate that spot with…..

The little plants went in the kitchen on the counter.

Love!

The big plants went in the livingroom on the tables.

So there you have it. I FINALLY have the plants that I’ve been wanting for a while. They look great, I love them, and I can’t wait to add more!

Next up, fixing the backyard…..

1 Year Later: Part 2

Now, if you will turn to your right, and continue on, we will be entering the walk-thru. When we moved in it was a mess.

Chris decided this would be the best place for our DVD’s and more organized cleaning supplies to live:

Isn’t it great? Now when I want to find the broom, or CSI season 1, I can find them really easily!

Next on the tour, the livingroom.

All of the rooms had dramatic changes to them. The most dramatic change in the Livingroom was the furniture:

See the lovely yellow couch?

Dusty Yellow..

And the chairs…

Lovely.

Chris saved the day on this one with an awesome Craigslist find. He managed to get us a loveseat and couch for a steal!

Looooveeee seat

(Can you tell I took this picture in the summer? The fan is trained on where I sit!)

I’m a much bigger fan of the green furniture!

Next stop: The office, formerly known as the “Red Room”:

Isn't that something?

A little blue paint, some more Ikea accessories, and a few jerseys, and the room was as good as new!

We jazzed it up a bit

Whew!  I’d say it’s a positive change!

I’m off to make some dinner in my lovely kitchen, stay tuned for part 3: the upstairs!

My first official project!

Today was my first real project on the house. I’ve decided that since we spend the most time in the living room, that it should be decorated first. Since we both tend to squish on the love seat, rather than stretch out on the couch (or each sit on one piece of furniture separately, but I digress..) I figured I should decorate the wall we can see, rather than the one that is behind us.

Ta-da! Here it is. The magical wall that had no idea of what I was about to do.

I decided to use some of my favorite black and white photos from my “portfolio” and some simple black picture frames in different sizes to add a little something to the wall. I picked 10 photos, and began to place the frames on the floor to figure out which arrangement I liked the best.

I printed all the pictures and was ready to go…

Then the unthinkable happened when I was about halfway through putting the pictures in the frames… I realized one of the 8×10 frames was cracked on the top corner. Time to rearrange again.

Not exactly symmetrical, but I decided I liked it better that way. Using a few tools that I borrowed from Chris, I started measuring and hanging the pictures (Sorry Mr. Voda if you’re seeing a tape measure you’ve been looking for for months! Your son has it.)

After hammering my finger only once I was all done. Its a little more spaced out than the version on the floor, but I think I like it a lot. It leaves room for later additions if I want, and if not, it works the way it is.

Things I learned? Pencil doesn’t come off the wall as easily as it does off paper (Don’t tell Chris, you can barely see it!), and they make decorating look a lot easier on TV! All in all, I’m pretty happy with how today went.

(All the pictures on the wall are being added to the Photography section so you can see them full size. 🙂  )
